2020.07.01 - IACA Announces the Passing of Former Executive Director Terry Scrogum

For Communities – Wednesday, July 1, 2020

Terry A. Scrogum, former Illinois Arts Council Agency (IACA) Executive Director and Board Member, passed away this week.

Terry departed the Illinois Arts Council Agency in March 2012, after 7 years as Executive Director and 13 years of service on the Board.  He was an instrumental part of the IACA team and the arts community in Illinois.

Terry’s time spent with the Arts Council shows only a sliver of his dedication to public service and the arts in Illinois.  During his distinguished career, Terry held governmental positions under six Illinois Governors, including Senior Advisor for Cultural Affairs under Governor Edgar.  He also served in a variety of capacities at The Hope School, a not-for-profit residential school for children with severe disabilities.

Throughout his life, Terry devoted much of his time and energy to service on a variety of community arts and cultural boards.  Filled with energy and humor, Terry was well liked by all that met him. He served his constituents and community with great care, enthusiasm and compassion.

We send our condolences to his family and friends.  His service is greatly appreciated and he will be sorely missed.

Further details and an obituary will be shared when available.

The IACA acknowledges ongoing support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
