Illinois Arts Council Announces FY02 Artists Fellowship Award Recipients
Chicago ---The Illinois Arts Council (IAC) is pleased to announce the second round of fiscal year 2002 Artists Fellowship Awards recipients. "In completing this round of Artists Fellowships for fiscal year 2002, the Illinois Arts Council continues its commitment to provide Illinois artists of exceptional talent with financial support, enabling them to pursue their artistic goals," said IAC Executive Director, Rhoda A. Pierce.
Non-matching fellowships in fixed amounts of $7,000 are awarded to Illinois artists in recognition of their outstanding work and commitment within the arts. This year 54 Illinois artists in the seven categories of choreography, interdisciplinary/performance art, media arts, music composition, photography, poetry and prose will receive Fellowships totaling $364,000.
Finalist Awards of $700 were also awarded to 29 Illinois artists in these seven disciplines for a total of $20,300. The Finalist Award category recognizes and encourages additional applicants who demonstrate considerable talent. This year's Fellowship and Finalist Award recipients were selected from 597 creative artists working in these disciplines.
The first round of fiscal year 2002 Artists Fellowship Awards covering the disciplines of crafts, ethnic and folk arts, playwriting/screenwriting and visual arts were announced in December, 2001.
