Diane Delin

Suzanne Plunkett
Artist / Program Description:
Downbeat Magazine prints, "(Jazz) Violinist Diane Delin moves through musical ideas with such grace," while Neil Tesser, author of The Playboy Guide to Jazz, writes, "She can light a real fire under both a band and an audience." Delin offers three concert programs. The first is an intimate duo performance with pianist Dennis Luxion (formerly with Chet Baker's group), which Chicago Jazz Magazine has said "has the beauty of French Impressionism, the intimacy of Astrud Gilberto, and the melodic fluidity of Strayhorn, all in an unpretentious and down-to-earth package." The second program is with her quartet of piano, bass, and drums, of which Jazz Times prints, "Delin swings hard in the company of an excellent rhythm section." Delin has also written arrangements for the quartet to perform with local chamber orchestras. Music in all three combinations includes performances of standards (both older, as well as those which have become "new standards") and original compositions. Educational programs include master classes for music students, clinics for students and educators, interactive school assembly "informances," and residencies for students of all ages. The groups present outreach to all community audiences.
