CORE Music Foundation

Founded by Yakira James, CORE Music Foundation began in 1995 as C.O.R.E., a network of united hip hop artists working together to obtain success in the music industry. The network formed a student Chapter sponsored by Columbia College Chicago the following year. On January 21, 2005, CORE Music Foundation was incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation in the State of Illinois. We have received grants from the Illinois Arts Council and the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs. We aim to improve the quality of life for our participants, as we strive to maintain our mission.

Artistic Statement:

CORE Music Foundation offers educational arts programming, mainly in music and literacy. We provide outlets for creative expression, social interaction, and entertainment.

CORE Music Foundation aims to inspire the community at large. We strive to change lives by using music and creative writing to help our program participants excel mentally, academically, and spiritually. We work towards empowering the community by nurturing our participants, giving them the skills needed to develop their craft and teaching them the value of giving back.
